More than 100 animals sterilised on Freedom Day

The Boksburg SPCA’s spay day shines a spotlight on the importance of preventing unwanted kittens and puppies.

Seen here are some of the veterinarians that came through to assist the Boksburg SPCA during its spay day on April 27.

A total of 102 animals were sterilised on Freedom Day (April 27) during the Boksburg SPCA’s spay day.

With the assistance of members of Pet Community Outreach (PCO), Unisa and the SPCA’s team of vets and nurses, the sterilisation initiative helped prevent hundreds of litters of unwanted puppies and kittens.

According to the SPCA manager Vicky Finnemore, 50 per cent of the cats and dogs were sterilised free of charge and the other half were subsidised for households earning less than R15 000 per month.

Queueing outside the Boksburg SPCA are some of the people who had their dogs and cats sterilised at the Boksburg SPCA on April 27.

“In line with World Veterinary Day on April 24, we give thanks to these amazing vets and vet nurses who rolled up their sleeves and gave up their public holiday for animal welfare. We would like to thank Dr Liané, Dr Jason, Dr Mareli, Dr Marianne, Dr Marge, Dr Hester and the Unisa vet, backed up by some phenomenal vet nurses, Klaudia, Fran, Nicole, Errence and the Unisa knockdown team,” Finnemore said.

She further thanked her Boksburg team, including the PCO team for all the hard work in ensuring the day was a success.
