Taking care of your eyes during Covid

There are a few important things to consider to keep our eyes healthy in these changing times.

In the last year, we have all had dramatic changes to our lives, and the way we do things have changed – some of it only for now, but some changes will be permanent.

When it comes to our eyes, there are a few important things to consider to keep our eyes healthy in these changing times. A healthy body means healthy eyes.

It is important to remember that our eyes are part of our bodies. It remains very important, not only for our general health but also for our eye health, to make sure we take care of our general health. A balanced, nutritious diet that includes enough fruit and vegetables, drinking enough water, a good night’s sleep and getting the right exercise, is a good start for healthy eyes.

The lockdown has seen many of us resorting to junk food, forgetting the exercise plan and not taking the much-needed care our bodies deserve. There has been an increase in systemic diseases like hypertension and diabetes, often undiagnosed as visits to the doctor has also been less. Remember that systemic conditions have a major effect on your eyes. So make sure you get your healthy habits back – for your body and eyes.

More screen time because many of us have been working from home.

The laptop has become the centre of many peoples’ lives. It’s where we work, have meetings and even relax with Netflix and social media.

Even the children have increased screen time.

But looking at the screen, whether the computer, the tablet or the phone, has serious negative effects on our eyes. Eye strain, dry eyes, tiredness and the effect of too much Blue-light are all too common.
Take a break from the screen and protect your eyes while you’re on it for healthy, happy eyes. See your optometrist.

We’ve all been a little (or a lot) more careful to go out and do the things we always did. But don’t neglect your eyes by not going for regular eye exams.

By detecting any issues at an early stage, your eye care practitioner can help and advise you to keep your eyes healthy and your vision sharp. If you haven’t had an eye exam with your optometrist since lockdown, make that appointment today.
