Ekurhuleni residents reminded restrictions are in place as water consumption increases
As per Level 1 restrictions, gardens may not be watered with a sprinkler or hosepipe between 06:00 and 18:00.
The City of Ekurhuleni is intensifying efforts to reduce water wastage, repair leaks and improve the efficiency of its water-distribution network as consumption continues to rise.
The measures form part of the city’s water conservation and demand-management programme, which aims to reduce unnecessary consumption and non-revenue water.
The city’s current interventions include:
· Leak detection and repairs: Work is ongoing across the water-distribution network, including in Daveyton and Actonville.
· Meter repairs: Leaking water meters and connections are being repaired to reduce water losses.
· Pressure management: Pressure-reducing valves are being refurbished and optimised to help prevent pipe bursts and minimise losses.
· Demand management: The city is implementing initiatives aimed at achieving measurable water savings and improving revenue collection.

Under the restrictions:

The city is also encouraging residents to make simple changes at home to reduce consumption, including:

· Fixing leaking taps and running toilets as soon as possible.
· Reporting leaking municipal water meters and other water-related faults.
