Woman arrested for faking a hijacking

A 40-year-old woman has been charged with perjury after she lied about her fake hijacking ordeal.

The Boksburg North SAPS has issued a stern warning to the public about lodging false criminal cases.

This follows the arrest of a 40-year-old woman who allegedly reported a fake hijacking and subsequently told the police that she’s going through a divorce with her husband when she realised the police are on to her.

The woman opened the case at the Boksburg North SAPS on April 6.

According to Boksburg North police spokesperson, Const Justice Ramaube, W/O Robert Ngomane called the woman to come to the police station on May 21 to ask her more information about the incident.

“When she was interviewed, the woman apparently admitted that she was lying. She told the police that she gave the car to two men to sell it for her because she’s going through a divorce. She was arrested and charged with perjury.”

Investigation
Meanwhile, through an investigation led by WO Ngomane, it was revealed that the woman did indeed voluntarily give her silver Volkswagen Jetta to two men to sell it for her in Kempton Park on March 24.

Ramaube said after the woman opened a case at the police station on April 6, her vehicle’s tracking device was activated and it enabled to police to track down the car and it was discovered that it was in Ivory Park.

“The police in Ivory Park arrested two men while another one fled the scene. The police in Ivory Park opened a case of possession of a hijacked motor vehicle and the car was taken to the Benoni pound.”

The woman appeared in the Boksburg Magistrate’s Court on May 24 and was granted bail. She will again appear in court on June 10.

The two men have also appeared in the Tembisa Magistrate’s Court where they were denied bail. They will again appear in court on June 22.

Newly appointed Boksburg North SAPS acting station commander, Lt Col Kwena Meso, has welcomed the arrest and commended the investigative officer for the good job well done.

He cautioned the community to refrain from reporting false cases and not waste state resources.
