Robbers loot two cellphone shops in Boksburg

Both businesses have opened cases of business robbery at the Boksburg North SAPS.

The Boksburg North police have launched a manhunt for three suspects who robbed two cellphone stores in Boksburg on June 4.

The two stores include a cellphone shop situated at El Ridge Corner Shopping Centre and an MTN store in Rietfontein Road.

About 20 Samsung smartphones and Huawei cellphones worth approximately R49 000 were stolen at the cellphone store at El Ridge Corner Shopping Centre at around 10:30.

According to Boksburg North police spokesperson Const Justice Ramaube, a 32-year-old woman who works at the store told police one of the three robbers showed her a gun which was on his waist and was asked for the keys to the safe.

The woman allegedly gave the keys to the men and they took the cellphones and then fled the scene.

Ramaube said the suspects, who fled in a white BMW with unknown registration, were caught on CCTV footage.
Later on in the afternoon, the suspects robbed a MTN store of its expensive cellphones and three laptops.

Ramaube said the video footage at the second store revealed the same three suspects who were wearing different clothes.

“The staff at the MTN store were tied up before the robbers fled the scene with the stolen items. Again the same modus operandi used at El Ridge Corner Shopping Centre was used, where one of the salespeople was shown a gun,” said Ramaube.

Cases of business robbery have been opened at the Boksburg North Police Station by the two stores.
