A security guard was shot dead at a construction site in Witfield by robbers on the morning of July 4.
According to the police, the deceased was on duty with another security when five men trespassed onto the property.
Boksburg North police spokesperson Const Justice Ramaube said the two security guards heard an alarm and then went to check. They then allegedly discovered that the fence was lifted.
Ramaube said they then fixed it and then proceeded to the guard room.
“The alarm went off for the second time and apparently the security guards decided to go in different directions to check. It is alleged that the victim saw the suspects and when he tried to flee he was shot from behind,” said Ramaube.
The suspects stole the victim’s cellphone and money. A bullet cartridge was also found on the scene.
A case of murder with aggravating circumstances has been opened at the Boksburg North Police Station. An investigation is underway.
The police are appealing to community members who might have seen or have information about the whereabouts of the five suspects to contact 071 675 6986 or 08600 10111.
