Support the Post a Can/Sandwich initiative

Volunteers from Post a Can/Sandwich initiative will once again collect necessities for a NPO at the SPAR on Rietfontein Road on July 31.

A group of friends initiated the project to assist charity organisations during the pandemic by collecting non-perishable foods and items, such as toys and clothing.

The volunteers are collecting donations every first Saturday of the month between 10:00 and 12:00.

“Due to the lockdown restrictions, we were unable to collect items at the beginning of July; hence, we are going to do it on July 31. We’re still deciding which NPO we’re supporting; however, we feel it must be a local organisation as we’re celebrating our one-year anniversary that day,” said one of the volunteers, Natalina da Conceicao.

Since the volunteers started the initiative in July last year, they assisted charity organisations such as Chubby Chums, Kuselo Child and Youth Care Services, St Francis Care Centre, Kids Haven and Urban Ruins.

According to da Conceicao, their initiative is still going from strength to strength.

“We’re just doing our best to assist other organisations. There is really a big need out there, and we will continue to help where we can.

“Furthermore, we started a Post a Cake initiative where we approach bakeries to donate a cake, which will be distributed to a centre on our list,” she explained.

The organiser expressed her gratitude to the community for helping them make the initiative successful.

“The support from the community has been amazing. We would like to thank everybody who supported us. We couldn’t have done it without their assistance. The management at SPAR is also awesome for allowing us to do this,” she added.
