Should the municipal elections be postponed?

Former deputy chief justice Dikgang Moseneke has recommended that local government elections be postponed due to Covid-19.

In the light of this, the Advertiser asked a few locals if they think it is good to postpone the local government elections.

Jabulani Hendricks: The municipal elections should not be postponed. It will be better if we can get it done.

James Gaucho: I believe they must postpone the local government elections. They must wait until the virus is under control.

Kobus Nel: It won’t be a good thing if they postpone the local government elections. People will be safe if all the necessary Covid-19 measures are in place. It is something that must be done.

Carika Steyn: It will be a good thing to postpone the elections for a month in light of the Covid-19 pandemic. Many people won’t feel safe standing in long queues to vote.

Clayton Bizabani: It will be safer for citizens if they postpone the local government elections. We are still in a pandemic. Why can’t we just vote next year?
