Afrika Tikkun workshops empower the youth

About 60 young people from Ramaphosa and surrounding areas recently attended a two-day skills development training organised by Afrika Tikkun.
The digital skills training, which took place at The Rock Ministry, offered young people the chance to acquire customer service skills and were thereafter issued with certificates of completion.
Afrika Tikkun said youngsters were taught how to assess the platform and they conducted a five-hour customer service course.
According to Warren Radebe, Afrika Tikkun project manager, the short courses are conducted through the global skills initiative which is a Microsoft programme aimed at empowering 25 million people around the world with skills for the digital economy.
“The initiative enables unemployed or economically disadvantaged South Africans to acquire digital skills and certification for in-demand jobs. This initiative is in response to the economic crisis, in particular job losses around the globe that have occurred as a result of the coronavirus pandemic.”
The project manager said the workshops are carried out through the access of the internet, using computers, cellphones and other electronic gadgets.
“Candidates register online at https://gsisa-signup.co.za/ and then begin a course. Among the many courses, three of them, data analyst, administrator and help desk are subsidised to access the enrolment for tech exam and bookings.
“We support them by providing our free exam centre and we assist and monitor these young people,” explained Radebe.
Radebe said that after the course, the certificates help to add value to their CVs, and others are inspired to start businesses.
One of the beneficiaries, Buhle Zingange (20), said the course was very informative and helpful to her. “This is better than idling at home doing nothing. I will continue doing the other related courses offered.”
