Metro’s swimming pools are now open, measures in place to prevent overcrowding

To prevent a repeat of overcrowding at the city’s facilities, bathers are urged to adhere to all Covid-19 regulations.

The Department of Sport, Recreation, Arts and Culture (SRAC) have opened the community swimming pools in the metro on September 1.

According to metro spokesperson Zweli Dlamini, SRAC had experienced overcrowding in the past swimming seasons as a result of crowd unruliness when queuing outside the pools.

To avoid this mishap repeating itself, it is requested that the following be communicated to the potential bathers:
• The metro, in compliance with the adjusted level three Covid-19 regulations, will only accommodate a maximum of 100 bathers at outdoor pools and a maximum of 50 bathers at indoor pools.
• Potential bathers ensure compliance with the adjusted level three Covid-19 lockdown regulations by:
• Keeping a physical distance of not less than 1.5m when queuing outside the swimming pools.
• Wearing masks at all times when queuing outside the swimming pools.
• Following instructions/ensure cooperation with the security personnel at swimming pools to prevent unnecessary stampedes, which may lead to fatalities.
