Rotary Club Boksburg faces membership challenges

Incoming Rotary Club of Boksburg president Derek Fox will this year focus on improving the membership of his club to continue making a difference in the community.

Fox, who has been part of Rotary for 16 years, said if they can have more members joining the club, this will improve fundraising and quality of service.

“Rotary is 116 years old this year and it continues to have a massive impact on the world, unbeknown to the masses. The Rotary Club Boksburg has been a part of the fabric of Boksburg since 1937 and when it started it had many members including top businessmen and women, mine managers as well as town and city mayors and councillors.
“The club’s fortunes have ebbed and flowed over the years.”

Fox said milestones for the club include starting the Horizon Clinic, the Bokkie Park and many other projects that are a significant part of the greater Boksburg society.

“Our daughter club, RC Boksburg Lake, also has had a huge influence on Boksburg and the surrounding communities.
“So as two clubs serving Boksburg, plenty has been done for Boksburg. As technology crept its way into society, Rotary has now adapted because mostly everything Rotary does is online. During lockdown, we met online and some clubs only meet digitally through a platform called e-clubs,” said Fox.
