Each of the Boksburg police stations has its policing precincts divided into smaller areas known as sectors, and each sector is supposed to be patrolled by at least two vehicles 24 hours a day.
When this new crime-fighting system was introduced years ago, the sector vehicles were equipped with cellphones for residents to contact in the event of any crime-related emergency.
SAPS sector vans cellphones broken, missing
Although this initiative was hailed by all the stakeholders as a game-changer for the SAPS to speed up response, it has recently come to the Advertiser’s attention that sector vans in some of the Boksburg police stations are no longer equipped with those gadgets. The state phones are either missing or broken.
The stations whose vans are no longer equipped with sector van cellphones are Boksburg SAPS, Reiger Park SAPS and Dawn Park SAPS.
People residing within these precincts are urged not to waste time trying to contact their sector vans as their cellphones are not working. Instead, you should use the alternative numbers, including the stations’ customer service centre (CSC) numbers and the sector managers’ cellphone numbers.
Every sector has a sector commander, who, as part of their role, are supposed to regularly meet with the community to brainstorm ideas on how to tackle local crime together.
If you are not happy with the service rendered in your area, you can contact the sector manager.If the problem is still not resolved, you can then escalate it to the station commander for the station in question to lodge a formal complaint.
To report any crime or suspicious activity within the precincts that are still making use of the sector vans cellphones, do not hesitate to contact the sector vehicle directly and speak to the on-duty officers.
