Crime intelligence members and EMPD tracing unit carried out a successful operation on November 10, which led to the arrest of three suspects in Boksburg, Brakpan and Benoni.
According to Ekurhuleni District communications officer Capt Neldah Sekgobela, during the operation, a Reiger Park man was arrested for possession of an unlicensed firearm and four rounds of ammunition while a Benoni man was arrested for possession of drugs, including six crystal meth, Mandrax tablets and rock cocaine to the value of R2 500.
Sekgobela added that another man was arrested along Voortrekker Road in Brakpan for possession of suspected stolen property, illicit cigarettes and bribery.
“During the arrest, members worked together with officers from the Ekurhuleni Flying Squad,” said Sekgobela.
The suspects have appeared in court, facing charges of possession of drugs and illegal firearms.
Ekurhuleni District commissioner Maj Gen Anna Sithole commended the efforts of the officers to remove drugs in communities as well as combat the proliferation of illegal firearms in the district.
