Four arrested for possession of suspected stolen alcohol in Boksburg

Gauteng provincial commissioner Lt-Gen Elias Mawela praised the police officers for a job well done.

Members of the SAPS Highway Patrol unit arrested four men they found in possession of over 37 boxes of suspected stolen alcohol in Boksburg on December 20.

According to police spokesperson Lt-Col Mavela Masondo, officers were conducting random stop-and-searches when they spotted a suspicious-looking white Hyundai H1 with only a driver inside.
They pulled the vehicle over and upon searching it, officers noticed it was carrying boxes of alcohol. They questioned the driver about the alcohol, but he failed to give proof of purchase.

Further investigation led the police to different locations in Boksburg and Benoni, where the other three suspects were found with over 25 boxes of alcohol stored in a truck.

All four suspects were arrested and charged with possession of suspected stolen goods.

While on the scene, two men reportedly approached the officers and offered them R10 000 to release the arrested four suspects and to not impound their vehicles. However, the police officers declined the offer, and both men were arrested for trying to bribe them.
All the suspects are expected to appear in the Boksburg Magistrate’s Court soon.
