Atlas Mall tighten security following robbery

The suspects got away with cellphones, DStv decoders and a substantial amount of cash. Boksburg North police are investigating a case of business robbery.

Atlas Mall said it has reinforced its security following a business robbery at the mall’s Pep Store on January 15.

“As owners of the Atlas Mall Shopping Centre, the safety of our patrons and tenants is of paramount importance.

“Although such incidences are rare, we are always cognisant of the risks and do our utmost to ensure such risks are minimised.

“We have, therefore, reinforced our security complement and wish to assure all visitors that everything possible is being done to ensure everyone has a safe and enjoyable experience when visiting Atlas Mall,” said a spokesperson of the mall.

He highlighted the mall is cooperating with the SAPS and are prepared to assist them in any way necessary with their ongoing investigation.

According to Boksburg North SAPS spokesperson Const Justice Ramaube, a 62-year-old employee told police she was standing next to the till when she noticed two suspicious-looking men.

“The victim alleged when she moved away, one of the men shouted at her and demanded she goes into the office. She said she complied and later on realised one of the men was part of a previous robbery that took place at the store,” said Ramaube.

The victim was then allegedly forced to hand over the store’s most expensive cellphones to the suspects, which she did.
