The family of one of the two women whose bodies were found in a veld in Windmill Park recently thanked local businesses that donated money for the burial of their loved one, Retshedisitse Phatswane.
Phatswane and her friend, Tshepiso Ntomane, were found dead next to Rooikraal Landfill on January 2.
Dawn Park-based businesses Roots Butchery and Dawn Park Market extended a helping hand to fund the burial, which was held on January 11 in Alberton.
On January 31, a representative of Phatswane’s family, Julius Tshikume, visited the good Samaritans to thank them for their generous gesture.

He was accompanied by members of the community, including members of the EFF Ward 99 branch.
Tshikume thanked the businesses and said they should continue to assist other families that may find themselves in a similar situation.
“Without their help, we wouldn’t have buried our loved one. Few people do what they have done for us,” said Tshikume.
The manager at Roots Butchery, Carlos Jordan, said they donated money for the funeral because they wanted to give back to the community that regularly supports them.
“It’s important for businesses to help needy people in the community we serve. We were touched when we learned that the family is struggling to bury their loved one,” Jordan said.
The manager of Dawn Park Market, Annalie Bekker, said they have previously helped several needy families as part of their way of giving back to the community, and felt it necessary to help this family too.
