
• A 28-year-old Windmill Park man was sentenced to 15 years imprisonment on February 28 after being found guilty of robbery with aggravated circumstances.
Sibusiso Banzi pleaded not guilty on February 21 but was found guilty on February 28. Found to have been acting in common purpose with others, Banzi assaulted and pointed a firearm at a woman in Dawn Park on June 24, 2020, and took her handbag with force.
Upon his arrest, he was found in possession of a gas pistol that resembled a real firearm. The imposed sentence, prescribed as a minimum sentence, was not influenced by the fact a gas pistol was used in the committal of the offence. It resembled a real firearm whose purpose it was to induce the same fear as a real firearm.
Magistrate Harichand presided and prosecutor Mbonani represented the state.
• Keenan Sandt (30) from Reiger Park pleaded guilty, was found guilty and sentenced on November 23, last year, on a charge of robbery. On August 31, he unlawfully and intentionally assaulted a woman and took her cellphone valued at R4 000.
Sandt was sentenced to 24 months imprisonment, of which 18 months is suspended for five years. He has no previous convictions.
Magistrate Havenga presided and prosecutor Lingane represented the state.
• Ziphozonke Nkambule (30) from Soweto pleaded guilty and was found guilty and sentenced on November 22 last year for stealing two bottles of perfume valued at R4 110 from a clothing store.
The suspect was sentenced to six months’ imprisonment, which is suspended for five years.

• A 38-year-old man was sentenced to three years imprisonment after being found guilty of theft on February 21.
Mokhosonke Mahunu pleaded not guilty. He has a string of previous convictions, ranging from possession of drugs (2004), possession of a dangerous weapon and theft (2008, 2009, 2010, 2012, 2013 and 2018).
Magistrate Havenga presided and prosecutor Lingane represented the state.
