In our article ‘Cable thief sentenced to 15 years‘, published in our March 4, 2022, issue, our picture caption misidentified the person in the photo as the convicted thief (Mahlomola Mashego).
The person in the photo is the investigating officer Const Det Mdunyelwa, whose diligent investigation saw Mashego being handed the 15-year jail term for tampering with the municipal infrastructure and possession of stolen electricity cable. We apologise to Mdunyelwa for the inconvenience and distress our error may have caused.
Mdunyelwa, who flagged the photo mix up, added the case against the accused was initially withdrawn, but that didn’t diminish his efforts to ensure the accused paid for his crimes.
His investigation saw the case being reinstated and the rest is history.
