Visitation at all correctional centres now permitted

Families of incarcerated loved ones will once again be allowed to visit them following the Department of Correctional Services announcement to resume face-to-face visits at all its prisons.

This comes after the visitation was halted across all its correctional centres due to the Covid-19 restrictions.

The department said in a statement that following the termination of the National State of Disaster by President Cyril Ramaphosa, DCS reviewed its Covid-19 risk-adjusted strategy and it will permit visits for inmates.

“All relevant Covid-19 mandatory protocols and regulations will still be adhered to during the visitations. DCS remains committed to prioritise the health of both officials and inmates,” the department said.
