According to DEMS spokesperson William Ntladi, part of the house was engulfed in flames upon the firefighters’ arrival on March 27.
“The call was received at 20:20. Eight minutes later, the first engine arrived on scene. The incident was reported as a well-alight house fire. Fire suppression was initiated to prevent the blaze from spreading to the entire structure.
Leon Ferreira and Farrarmere fire stations were in attendance, with two major pumpers from Leon Ferreira augmented by four personnel and a medium pumper from Farrarmere Fire Station augmented by four personnel as well.
“The fire is suspected to have started in a room built onto the main house and the entire premises was used as a pre-school. There weren’t any children present at the time, only an adult female working on the premises at the time of the fire. The entire scene was done at 22:05 when the crews arrived back at their respective stations.”
Ntladi highlighted no casualties were reported.
The owner of the pre-school, who wished to remain anonymous, thanked 947 and everybody who assisted the family.
She added it appears that an electrical shortage caused the fire.
