Const Zanele Motaung, spokesperson of Reiger Park SAPS, cautions motorists to avoid Wit Deep Road, in Delmore informal settlement.
According to Motaung, criminals are pretending to be protesting and then stopping trucks and looting goods. She added that the criminals even rob truck drivers of their personal belongings.
“I can’t say how many cases were reported on this road, but the lootings happen at least twice a week.
They started in November last year and are happening day and night.
“We were tipped-off about this trend and increased patrols on this road but did not at first make arrests. However, on April 6 our officers made a break-through and arrested four suspects in connection with the looting, at around 14:00 in Delmore informal settlement.
“The arrests happened after a victim of the looting reported the matter at our police station.
“A case of theft was opened and police pursued the criminals, later searching the suspects’ house and finding stolen goods,” said Motaung.
