A total of 125 vehicles and 224 people were searched and 18 traffic fines were issued during Operation Okae Molao, which was led by the Reiger Park SAPS on April 28.
The Reiger Park SAPS partnered with the EMPD and Gauteng Traffic Police to initiate the operation.
According to the deputy district commissioner, Brig Lebohang Machakela, the operation is held in areas where there are increasing crime patterns.
“Reiger Park has the problem of murder, assault, and hijackings and we are here today to tackle those problems.
There’s also another crime prevention operation that’s part of our Operation Okae Molao that is moving around in Reiger Park checking for liquor compliances and drugs,” said Machakela.
“Operation Okae Molao is a multi-disciplinary integrated operation conducted by us as the SAPS and we are doing it with other law enforcement agencies. We have conducted a roadblock here at Commissioner Street today to search vehicles, hence we are looking for stolen vehicles and illegal firearms.
“The Gauteng traffic police and EMPD are helping us in the operation to ensure all the vehicles that are travelling on our roads are roadworthy and to curb crime.
“Operation Okae Molao is normally initiated because of the crime pattern analysis. We check the crime picture of an area. If there’s a problem we pool resources from different police stations. As law enforcers, we will continue to fight crime and make sure it is stopped,” said Machakela.
