The Advertiser recently reported on the state of Tambo Memorial Hospital, and our online readers shared their views on the matter, with some suggesting the hospital’s glory has been deteriorating gradually since the late 90’s.
Sharon Naude: Was one of the best hospitals, but now if you go in don’t expect to come out alive.
Sheila Parrott: Did midwifery nursing in 1964 when the hospital was very well run. Tragic situation (as it) was (an) excellent training hospital.

Rina Labuschagne: My husband had a heart attack in January and up to now he saw two specialists Dr Nana Mita and Dr X Malevu and his nurse. I want to compliment them for caring and taking care of him. If all the doctors at the hospital can be like them, then the hospital would be such a better place. The hospital itself should be taken care of by the government.

Carina Badenhorst: My mom was there for a wrist operation after being in car crash. She had no other option. Sad to say it was said to be better than some other hospitals.

Roberta Aitken Fuller: There was a time when the Boksburg/Benoni Hospital was spotlessly clean and had excellent staff. Now it’s such a shame!
Pinnuccia Nisha Seaman: I had an emergency C-section there and I was treated so well. I had to stay for two days and my baby had to stay there a week after he had meconium exposure and they looked so well after him too.
Jacqueline Stuart: My eldest daughter was born there in 1985. It was a first-class hospital. So heart breaking to see it in such a bad state.
Winnie Pretorius: My dad is there now as we speak. He had a bike accident on Saturday from the moment he arrived till now we and him had very good help. Yes they are busy renovating and yes it looks bad but service is very good so far.
Natasha Perrin: Worst hospital ever and long ago it was a decent hospital. Had a bad experience there this weekend and rather went to Steve Biko in PTA which is much better.
