Procession of drugs
On May 9, Navan Swarts (22) from Reiger Park was sentenced to a R600 fine or six months’ imprisonment, wholly suspended for three years for possession/use of drugs.
He pleaded guilty on May 6 and was found guilty and sentenced on May 9.
On December 8, 2020, Swarts was in possession of 0.09g of methamphetamine in Reiger Park.
“I had the drugs in my possession for personal use,” read a part of his plea.
Magistrate Bacon presided and prosecutor Kuhela represented the
State.
Robbery
On May 11, Mpho Gordon Macakasha (20) was sentenced to seven years’ imprisonment of which three years is suspended for five years, on a robbery charge, and was declared unfit to possess a firearm.
He pleaded guilty, was found guilty and sentenced on May 11. On August 2, last year, Macakasha
assaulted and with force took R5 000 from a person.
“It was a Monday afternoon around 17:00. I was in the company of a friend in my place of residence.
We then went to Golden Centre Supermarket. We entered the shop and found one male at the counter.
I then asked him to give us money and threatened him with assault if he does not comply. There were
two other people inside the shop and they ran outside. The male who was standing next to me was very scared and he took out notes of R200 and R100, and handed it to me.
“I took the money and we left the shop and split the money. The complainant came with a police officer to my residence and I was arrested,” read a part of his plea.
Magistrate Shilubana presided and prosecutor Mooiman represented the State.
Theft
On May 9, Nicky Nukeri (32) from Palm Ridge was sentenced to two years correctional supervision on four counts of theft. He was employed at Jet Park Demolition at the time of the offences, and stole the scrap metal from his
employer.
Nukeri, who was a truck driver at the company, pleaded guilty and was found guilty on February 8.
Count one: On September 3, last year, Nukeri stole scrap metal valued at R5 264.
Count two: On September 7, last year, Nukeri stole scrap metal to the value of R9 664.
Count three: On September 8, last year, Nukeri stole scrap metal valued at R6 720.
Count four: On October 21, last year, Nureki stole scrap metal valued at R27 602.
As part of his plea, Nureki stated: “I was employed by the complainant.
“The offences were committed at the time when I was performing my duties as the employee.
“My duties were to deliver scrap metal to the scrap yard.
“I would offload the scrap metal as expected and leave some in the truck so I could sell it for myself.
“This is what I have done on all the above-mentioned dates.
“When taking the items, I had the intention of permanently depriving the owner of their property.
“I also want to mention I took the items out of desperation.
“I was not paid for four months and I thought of the credits that were under my name.
“I also want to apologise for my conduct.”
