Security partnerships vital for combatting crime

Through partnership we can turn the tide on crime

Professional partnerships between police and private security companies are proving to be vital in the fight against crime.

This is according to Benoni Flying Squad’s (BFS) spokesperson, WO Grant Giblin.

BFS members and local security personal recently successfully arrested seven people in two separate incidents relating to theft of motor vehicles.

“At 11:00 we received information of a white Hyundai i20, with four occupants loitering in the parking lot of a supply store on North Rand Road, Boksburg,” said Giblin.

“A chase ensued and with the help of security personnel they were pulled over on Trichardts Road, Ravenswood.”
Following a thorough search of the vehicle, it was found that it was fitted with a false number plate and license disc.

Implements recovered in the white Hyundai i20.

Tools used for breaking into and theft of motor vehicles as well as a signal jammer, remotes to jam car remotes, a vehicle electronic computer unit, vehicle keys and multiple vehicle ignitions were found.

“The suspects were immediately arrested and the vehicle impounded,” said Giblin.

At 16:00, members once again received information from a local security company based in Kempton Park that they had pulled over a white Golf GTI for driving recklessly.

“At the scene, on the corners of Fiskaal and Monument roads the three occupants of the vehicle were arrested when it was found that the vehicle was reported as stolen in Springs,” he said.

“The suspects were detained at Kempton Park SAPS and the vehicle impounded.

“Cases like these are a testament on what can be achieved if public and private security units join forces in the fight against crime.”
