The families of best friends Tshepiso Ntomane (40) and Retshedisitse Phatswane (31), whose bodies were found in a veld next to the Rooikraal landfill site on January 3, said they have not been kept updated by police about the murder investigation.
Ntomane’s sister, Seipati, said they are completely in the dark about the status of the investigation and are beginning to lose hope in the Dawn Park Police.
“We haven’t heard anything from the detective who is in charge of the case. Our family is hurting because my sister and her friend who were killed and the murderers haven’t been arrested yet,” she said.
Julius Tshikume said he wants to see the murderers arrested because what they did to his daughter-in-law is cruel.
“We want justice for our daughter-in-law and her friend. Most importantly, we want the detective handling the case to communicate with us.
“No one has made an effort to speak to us. As the community, Ramphosa, we have lost hope in the Dawn Park police. Whenever there is a crime happening they take time to attend it. You can call them at 12:00 and they will arrive at 14:00,” said Tshikume.
Spokesperson of Dawn Park SAPS Sergeant Nkemeleng Mabula says she understands the frustrations of the families. They are, however, tracking a suspect in the case.
“The forensics team has taken the belongings of the victims for testing and if they can find of the suspect’s DNA on them, we are going to make an arrest. We are waiting for the results.
“The investigating officer is the one who has to update the people affected by the case.
“If the investigating officer is not doing it, the families can report this to the branch commander of our police station and if they are still not satisfied they can approach our station commander,” said Mabula.
With regard to the murder of Oupa Dimaza, whose body was discovered burnt in a veld next to Windmill Park Estate on February 21, the family say they also had no update from Dawn Park Police.
Dimaza’s brother, Thabo, said the investigating officer has his phone number, but he doesn’t hear from him.
“The last time I spoke to him and other Dawn Park police officers was the day after my brother’s burial.
“We want justice for our family,” he said.
