
Reckless driving
On November 9, last year, a Soweto man, Sydwell Paballo Mthombeni (31) pleaded not guilty to a charge of reckless driving.
The charge stems from him being arrested for not stopping at a red traffic light in Commissioner Street, Boksburg, on May 16, 2020.
He was found guilty on May 30 and sentenced to a R2 000 fine or six months imprisonment, of which half is suspended for three years.
His driver’s licence was not suspended.
Magistrate Mqambeli presided and prosecutor Khalishwayo represented the State.
Theft
Precious Zungu (42), of Thembisa, pleaded guilty to and was found guilty on a charge of theft on March 3.
On May 30, she was sentenced to a fine of R3 000 or three months imprisonment, wholly suspended for five years, for stealing two dresses valued at R299,98 from a Jet store on February 9.
Magistrate Bacon presided and prosecutor Khwela represented the State.
Assault GBH
Ayanda Khanyisile Witbooi (25), of Somalia Park informal settlement, pleaded not guilty to a charge of murder on March 2.
On May 16 he was found guilty of assault with the intent to cause grievous bodily harm and sentenced to three years imprisonment, suspended for five years.
Upon or about June 2, 2020, Witbooi killed a man in Somalia Park. He was arrested on the day of the incident and made his first appearance on October 8, 2020.
