Boksburg North house gutted by fire

They were all woken up by a barking dog, as the fire gained momentum.

A house on Fourth Street, Boksburg North, was gutted by fire on June 7. It left seven adults and two boys
of about two years destitute.

The NPO Boksburg Broodblik/Boksburg Bread Bin Feeding Project operated from these premises. This was
confirmed by the founder of the NPO Cobus Uys.

He said the fire started in a back room just before 07:30.

“When we noticed the fire, we tried to grab what we could and escape. Two of our small dogs didn’t make it.

“We have lost everything as we only managed to salvage beds and are now living in an outside room
on the property,” he said.

Ekurhuleni DEMS spokesperson William Ntladi said the Leon Ferreira Fire Station firefighters received the call about the fire at 08:10.

“We arrived on the scene about five minutes later and were assisted by Farrarmere firefighters.

“The teams managed to extinguish the fire and paramedics assisted one of the family members who suffered smoke inhalation,” said Ntladi.
