Ekurhuleni hikes its bus fares

Metro bus commuters will have to fork out more money next month

The City of Ekurhuleni’s transport service announced that it would be hiking bus fares by R0.50c per trip from July 1.
The last time the city increased the bus fare was July, 2019.

Here’s how much you’ll now pay from July 1:

Metro spokesperson Zweli Dlamini explained that due to the ever increasing maintenance costs and the price of fuel, the city had to adjust the fares to keep the service afloat.

“Unfortunately the situation is beyond our control and everyone can concur with us that the standard of living is becoming more and more expensive each day – and so are maintenance costs.
“Understanding this, we are implementing a minimal increase in order to ensure the fleet remains in good condition for the ease of movement of our people between their homes and their various destinations and places of work,” said Dlamini.
