AfriForum fights crime by initiating national neighbourhood watches

AfriForum determined to combat crime in South Africa.

The AfriForum national neighbourhood watches took place across South Africa on July 8.

AfriForum collaborated with SAPS and various security agencies in the national neighbourhood watches.

According to the Boksburg AfriForum chairperson Frankie Pedreiro, head patroller Daniel Ross of Boksburg AfriForum, invited all security companies based in Boksburg to join AfriForum Boksburg patrol.

“The Boksburg neighbourhood patrol began at El Ridge Corner Shopping Centre in Bartlett at 18:00, moved through other areas of Boksburg and ended at the Sunward Lifestyle Centre at 07:00 in the morning. Approximately 4 500km in total was covered in the AfriForum Boksburg patrol.

“However, a total of 2 090 patrollers took part in the national neighbourhood watches. They covered 72 176km in 1 634 vehicles. During the patrols, the neighbourhood patrollers responded to 88 incidents across the country.

“The national patrol aims to mobilise communities against crime, maintain high visibility and improve cooperation between security role players at the high and local levels.

“The security companies that attended the AfriForum Boksburg patrol are Legendary Guardians, Mamba PHP, Makopano, graphite and Fidelity, Including the Boksburg 911 Neighbourhood Watch Group and the Boksburg Chaplains,” said Pedreiro.
