Gun owners with expired licences urged to make new applications

Did you fail to renew your gun licence on time? The Boksburg police are ready to help you process new application

The Boksburg SAPS encourages gun owners whose firearm licences have expired to visit the police station and apply for new licences.

This comes after reports that the police system blocked people who had failed to renew licences before expiration from renewing or applying for a new firearm licence.
Gun owners, however, challenged the decision in court, and the ConCourt ruled in favour of gun owners who failed to renew licences before expiration.

Applicants are, however, required to bring with them the firearms that they are applying for to allow the DFO to conduct physical inspections on them.
Gun owners are assured that this is not a ploy to seize their firearms, but the sole reason for asking people to bring their guns is to conduct inspection of the gun.

For more information on this, contact the local Designated Firearm Officer (DFO) on 074 715 5952 during office hours: 8:00 and 15.30 Monday to Friday.
