Police intensify community participation in the fight against crime

During the brainstorming session, the station commander tabled the quarterly crime stats report.

The Boksburg SAPS management, CPF and security companies have recently met to brainstorm answers and better ideas to solve the crime problem, which has been for a while giving residents sleepless nights.

Police reports indicated that frightened residents in the communities within the Boksburg SAPS policing precinct suffer a range of serious criminal activities almost every week. These include robberies, break-ins, vehicle theft, carjacking and gun-related crimes.

The frightening state of affairs has prompted the key parties to roll up their sleeves and come together to devise new ideas to help increase community participation in the fight against crime and develop working strategies to combat all forms of lawlessness within the area.

Boksburg SAPS spokesperson, Sergeant Ntsako Ledwaba said a partnership with all local key stakeholders including the CPF, security companies and community organisations can help turn around the situation of crime in the area, hence they (the police) encourage community participation in the fight against crime.

“Community involvement plays a vital role in policing and we hope that the partnership will help to mobilise community support in the ongoing fight against crime. It’s important for members of the public to understand that they too have a social and moral obligation to assist and support the police in the fight against crime and other forms of social disorder,” said Ledwaba.

The police appeal to members of the public to also support the community structures, including CPF, Youth Desk and other initiatives intended to bring safety to the community.
During the brainstorming session, the station commander tabled the quarterly crime stats report.

The police promised to have regular meetings with the key stakeholders to discuss problems and solutions to crime in the area.
