Operation Okae Molao yields more than 200 arrests and R30k in fines in Boksburg

Different law enforcers joined hands to combat crime during an operation Okae Molao in Boksburg.

A total of 252 suspects were arrested and 74 traffic fines to the value of R31 300 were issued during the Okae Molao operation held in North Rand Road between July 21 and 22.

The operation, led by Ekurhuleni District commissioner Major Anna Sithole, was joined by Deputy Commissioner Brigadier Lebohang Machakela, SAPS members, EMPD, JMPD, security companies and CPF members.

According to Brigadier Machakela, the operation was aimed at eliminating crime in the Boksburg North policing precinct.

“We choose locations based on the suitablilty to stop cars without causing traffic problems. Over and above that we decided to come to Boksburg because the city has experienced crime in terms of attempted murder, rape and house robberies,” said Machakela.

During their operation, 150 suspects were arrested for contact crimes such as assault, murder, common robbery, armed robbery, rape, car hijacking, GBV, bribery and intimidation.

The others were arrested for being in possession of stolen property, possession of stolen motor vehicles, conspiracy to commit rape and pointing a firearm at someone.

Machakela pointed out that communities should work with them. If they have information, they should approach the station commanders, who will know what to do.

“We need information, especially in cases of murder and rape, because we cannot resolve the issue without information from the communities,” Machakela said.
