16DaysofActivism: Boksburg team helps Orange Farm deals with GBV issues
One of the objectives is to make women, girls, and other vulnerable members of the community, including the LGBTQI+ community who have been victims of GBV related cases, know about their rights and where they can go for help
A team of volunteers from the Reiger Park Crisis Centre has been deployed to Orange Farm, where they are helping to strengthen the fight against gender-based violence (GBV).
According to the centre manager, Elaine Appies, the caregivers have been appointed as part of the Department of Social Development’s national programme to tackle GBV in areas regarded as potential hotspots.
The team is focusing on GBV, including domestic violence, raising awareness and holding outreach programmes in different spots, including at the clinic, police station, streets, and conducting door-to-door campaigns.
