Protesting residents block R554, Rondebult roads
Rondebult Road and the R554 have been barricaded with burning tyres and rocks in protest against power outages
Motorists are advised to use alternative routes as a group of protesters at the corner of Rondebult Road and the R554, between Dawn Park and Klippoortjie, have blocked the roads.
They have closed the route in both directions.
EMPD spokesperson Deliwe Ndlovu confirmed that the roads are affected in all directions due to the protest action.
Although Ndlovu said it’s still unclear as to what sparked the protest, unconfirmed reports suggest that residents are protesting against electricity blackouts in the area. Police are on the scene to monitor the situation

Ward councillor Lana Marais said she had a meeting with the frustrated residents, and promised to come up with plans on how to address the power crisis in the area in about two weeks.
