Viearn Green selected for Valke senior women’s team

She recently played her first game in the Valke team.

Viearn Green (20) from Rieger Park scored herself a place on the Valke senior rugby team when she tried her luck at the trials that were held at Bernard Stadium, in Kempton Park, on May 1.

She took part in last year’s trials in Springs for the U20 team and played in the YTC tournament this year. She then tried again for the senior team.

According to Green, she enjoyed watching rugby and in 2021 she decided to try it out. She played for a local club and when the Valke hosted trials, she decided to take part, not knowing that she would be selected.

“It felt like an honour for me to be selected and be part of an amazing team at the age of 20,” said Green.

She said she looks up to Sinelitha Noxeke from the Bulls Daisies women’s team, who she describes as an amazing player. Green says Noxeke inspires her to become the best she can ever be.

“I have an astonishing support structure that is my parents. They take me to practice and they are always there on my game days watching me on the field,” Green said.

The fullback position player aims to encourage her teammates to become the best version of themselves.
“My goal in rugby is to become the best female coach in the rugby sport,” she said.

She said that she would like to advise young girls who would like to embark on the journey of being a rugby player to be goal driven and they must remain humble, patience is the key and they must also trust God’s timing.
