Experience a day with the SA Guide-Dogs Association for the Blind this Mandela Day

For 70 years, the Association has made a significant impact in the lives of people with visual or physical impairment and children with low-spectrum autism.

For the millions of people living with disabilities in South Africa, the freedom of independent living is something that they can’t take for granted. Most of them are unable to live fully independent lives due to their disability.

The South African Guide-Dogs Association for the Blind’s vision is to have a country where every person with visual and physical disabilities can experience freedom and independence.

Many South Africans know that the Association provides Guide Dogs to people who are visually impaired, but many are still unaware of the other life changing services provided by the Association such as Service Dogs to people with physical disabilities, Autism Support Dogs to children on the Autism Spectrum and the Association also teaches people life changing skills like the use of a white cane and other daily life skills to people who are visually impaired.

Mandela Day gives the Association the opportunity to engage with the public to experience 67 minutes in the shoes of a visually impaired person.

We invite the members of the public to join us on our premises for exciting Experience Days and this year is extra special as we are celebrating our 70th Birthday.

Our Assistance Dogs Trainers and Orientation and Mobility Practitioners are very excited to share their world with the public.

Our aim is to raise R67 000 to provide our clients with the assistive devices and training needed to make their dreams come true says Nicole Barros, Regional Marketing Manager at the Association.

She goes on saying that “the Association relies solely on the support of the public to continue changing lives.”

There are many ways for individuals and corporates to take action and enable us to continue with the life-changing work that we do.

  • Help us by raising funds to purchase 67 assistive devices.
  • Sponsor our puppies and become a Litter Legend. Follow each litter’s journey from puppyhood through training and eventually, placement with a client.
  • Friends, family and colleagues can individually sign up for monthly debit orders OR choose to collectively raise funds to make a once off donation of R670, R6700 or even R67000.
  • Stand a chance to win a brand new Suzuki Swift GLX MT and purchase 6700 car raffle tickets.

For 70 years, the Association has made a significant impact in the lives of people with visual or physical impairment and children with low-spectrum autism. The Association’s success relies solely on the generosity of members of the public and corporate organizations.
