Tjoepa beats Reid to take June honours

The competition is held on the third Saturday of every month. The next event is on August 19 at Poortjie on the Vaal Dam.

Tjoepa Veldman is the winner of this month’s Eland Angling Club’s monthly competition after catching the winning bag of 12 fish totalling 19.720kg at Kees van der Walt Resort on the Vaal Dam on July 15.

The win took Veldman to 284.4 points in the competition.

The winner of the May competition, Craig Reid, claimed the second spot with 20 fish for a total of 8.615kg for 286.15 points.

The club’s acting chairperson, Malcolm Hicks, rounded off the podium with a bag of 21 fish totalling 7.04kg which gave him 284.8 points in the competition.

“Despite the bitterly cold weather the member attendance was good and a total of 125 fish was caught by a total of 13 anglers,” said club secretary Tommie Veldman.

According to Tommie, the mudfish, known as muddie in the angling community, was a draw in the competition.
Schalk Uys caught the largest mudfish which weighed 0.605kg.
