CPI nabs medical waste dumpers in Van Dyk Park

The Kia truck had dumped medical waste in the veld for a while.

The Community Patrollers Initiative (CPI) caught an unmarked Kia K2700 truck dumping medical waste in a veld near Mine Quarters in Van Dyk Park on September 16.

According to CPI chairperson Anton Botha, residents of the Mine Quarters notified them about an unmarked truck dumping medical waste in the veld.

“We quickly went to the scene and found the occupants of the bakkie dumping medical waste and burning it.

“They were dumping a range of medical waste, including items that looked like a fetus. We then apprehended the suspect,” explained Botha.

He said the dumpers even showed them the other areas around the veld where they had previously dumped medical waste.

The spokesperson of the Dawn Park SAPS, Sergeant Nkemeleng Mabula, confirmed the police went to the scene.

“Thereafter, we referred the matter to the councillor and the CoE’s Environment and Waste Management Department officials,” said Mabula.

The Boksburg Advertiser sent an enquiry to the city and Ward 43 Clr Carolana Marais and awaits a response from both parties.
