Gamede and Van Wyk land with their feet on the podium
The runners podiumed in their categories in the race.
The Boksburg Athletic Club (BAC) veteran runners David Gamede and Rita van Wyk proved again that age is just a number when they both finished on the podium at the TracN4 Elands Marathon in Nelspruit on March 2.
Gamede completed the 42.2km distance in 02:52:54 to finish second in the men’s grandmasters’ category and 34th overall.
He finished 1:53 behind winner Rodney Manyise, who clocked 02:51:01 for the win and Mncedisi Dlova rounded-up the podium in 03:09:48.

Van Wyk claimed a bronze medal in the women’s grandmasters category after finishing third in 03:48:37. The race was won by Malie van der Walt who cut the tape in 03:34:30 while Ansa Strydom grabbed the silver in 03:47:46.
Kenyan Jackson Ole Koisenge won the men’s main race in 02:12:56 while Helena Joubert claimed the top spot in the women’s race in a time of 02:46:58.
Mokgola hits top gear at Cape Gate

Isaac Mokgola finished sixth in the main race of the Cape Gate Vaal Marathon in Vanderbijlpark on March 3.
The BAC runner clocked 02:41:31 for a top 10 finish. His teammate, Zacharia Mokgotsi was first in the grandmasters category after cutting the tape in 03:28:49 while George Lourentz Benade was third in the same category after crossing the line in 03:54:19 for the bronze.
Veronica Laurings clocked 05:48:50 for seventh in the women’s grandmasters category.
