Gym spins into action to help the SPCA

Weideman said the focus of the event was to recognise the ongoing needs of animal shelters and rescue organisations.

Virgin Active K90 Centre extended a helping hand to Boksburg SPCA by donating food and other animal supplies on May 4 .
According Willem Weideman, spinning instructor at the club, the donation was the result of a charitable event organised by the enthusiastic group of athletes from Virgin Active who showcased their compassion for animals.

“About 30 dedicated indoor cyclists of varying ages and fitness levels took part in a challenging three-hour indoor cycling session.

The dog food and basic supplies that were donated.

“The event simulated the gruelling Alpe d’Huez climb from the Tour De France, covering 13.9 kilometers with 21 turns and an average gradient of 8%.

“This simulated climb, with a difficulty score of 994, tested the participants’ endurance and determination as they pedalled for a cause,” said Wiedman.

The focus of the event was to recognise the ongoing needs of animal shelters and rescue organisations.

“The focus of the event was not only on monetary donations but also on collecting essential supplies to support the daily operations and care of animals.

“The generous contributions from the cyclists, staff members and the wider Virgin Active K90 community amounted to about R10 000,” said Weidman.

Vicky Finnemore, the manager of Boksburg SPCA, expressed heartfelt gratitude to Willem and all the participants of the spinning class for their donation.

“The supplies, including dry dog and cat food, tinned food, blankets, bowls and beds, arrived at a crucial time when the SPCA’s resources were running low, highlighting the significance of such community support in caring for the animals in need,” said Finnemore.
