Milestone birthday bash benefits NPOs

Med-Leigh Pharmacy at The Square Centre in Rietfontein Road celebrated its 21st birthday with a community fun day on May 4.

This special occasion not only marked two decades and a year of service but also highlighted the pharmacy’s deep-rooted commitment to the Boksburg community, as it rallied support for two NPOs, the Boksburg SPCA and Urban Ruins.

According to Balushi Sekele, the dispensary manager, as a community pharmacy, their minds and hearts are rooted in Boksburg.

“Twenty-one years is a significant milestone and throughout these years, we’ve been upheld by the support of the Boksburg community.”

She emphasised the pharmacy owner Leigh Schmid’s profound passion for animals, which motivated their decision to support the SPCA alongside their celebration.

“Our donations included blankets, dog food, sanitary pads, non-perishable food items and clothes, with contributions from pharmaceutical companies, the community and us.”

The community fun day featured various activities, including raffles with enticing prizes.

Sekele expressed gratitude for the support and said the event was a success. She thanked both the community and companies like Adcock, Aspen, and Cipla for their generous contributions.

Vicky Finnemore, manager of the Boksburg SPCA, expressed appreciation for the pharmacy’s initiative and the broader community support.

“This initiative will go a long way in supporting our efforts for animal welfare,” she remarked.

Clayton Viljoen, CEO of Urban Ruins, also thanked the pharmacy’s initiative and the broader community support.
