Learners shine in leadership programme

Learners from diverse backgrounds unite for one life-changing experience for the Boxer Youth Leadership Programme.

The 22nd annual Boxer Youth Leadership Programme (BYLP) was held at Zinkwazi on KwaZulu-Natal’s north coast, bringing together 50 learners from grades nine to 11 from schools across South Africa and Eswatini.

The programme, which aimed at honing personal and leadership skills, was spearheaded by BYLP in collaboration with co-sponsors Clover.

Boxer group executive for stakeholder sustainability and engagement, Ntombi Dludla, said that this year marked a significant milestone for young leaders, with 50 learners eagerly pursuing every opportunity provided to them.

“They were selected through a rigorous process, and the programme aimed to refine their leadership skills.
“As students returned home, they brought not only increased talents and treasured experiences but also a better sense of their critical role in influencing the future,” said Dludla.

Gauteng graduates back: Nkosinathi Sibanyoi (Kwa-Thema), Reitshepile Omwony (Johannesburg), Lehlohonolo Malebane (Vosloorus), Lerato Ranthimo (Sebokeng) and Alulutho Majola (Kwa-Thema). Dludla said the week-long immersion in leadership development saw the learners embarking on a journey of self-discovery and growth.

“From adrenaline-pumping activities like abseiling to the tranquillity of ocean swims, the programme offered a diverse array of experiences.

“For many, it was a transformative experience, marked by first-time encounters with air travel and the vast expanse of the ocean.
“The programme featured insights from experts across various fields and inspiring speeches from guest speakers, igniting a sense of ambition and possibility among the young participants.

“The exposure to varied ideas and real-world experiences encouraged learners to recognise their potential and strive for excellence.
“The 2024 BYLP concluded with a graduation ceremony,” said Dlula.
Learner in grades nine to 11, as well as their parents, are invited to remain tuned for the announcement of entry information for the BYLP’s 2025 edition.
