Learners engage with the long arm of the law

Twilight School of Excellence recently hosted a career day, welcoming members of the Dawn Park SAPS to share insights about their profession.

The invitation, extended by the school, was enthusiastically accepted by the SAPS team.

Sergeant Nkemeleng Mabula, spokesperson of the Dawn Park SAPS, led the initiative. She emphasised the importance of community involvement in education.

“Community members and leaders coming into the classroom to share insights about their careers and details about the necessary education and training for career success is invaluable.

This approach allows learners to gain a deeper understanding of various career paths directly from those who work in the field.

“During the event, learners were given the unique opportunity to listen to presentations, engage in interactive discussions, and ask questions about the life of a police officer.

“This first-hand exposure is crucial in helping learners identify careers that genuinely interest them and understand the steps needed to pursue those careers.

Mabula said Dawn Park SAPS team provided learners with a realistic look at what it means to be a police officer, discussing not only the responsibilities and challenges of the job but also the rewards and the necessary qualifications.

“This direct engagement is part of a broader effort to nurture career exploration among young learners,” said Mabula.

Mabula went on to say that beyond the career-specific insights, the event underscored the importance of community connection.

“Learners don’t just learn from their teachers. Community members and leaders can play a vital role in a learner’s education,” said Mabula.

Mabula added that the principal of Twilight School of Excellence expressed deep appreciation for the efforts of the Dawn Park SAPS.
