Support a fundraiser for Reiger Park child

Reiger Park community is rallying behind 11-year-old Ashtenique Baron, who is courageously battling a life-threatening illness.
A benefit concert, hosted by the Melodies and Verses Group, will be held at the Reiger Park Civic Centre on November 9 at 13:00, aiming to raise funds for Ashtenique’s medical treatment. The entrance fee is R50.
Ashtenique’s journey has been fraught with challenges. In late August, she began suffering from mouth sores and breathing difficulties.
After several misdiagnoses, doctors discovered she has aplastic anaemia, a rare condition that prevents her bone marrow from producing enough blood cells.
As an only child, finding a suitable stem cell donor has been particularly difficult.
Faced with overwhelming medical expenses, her family launched a BackaBuddy campaign to raise R50 000 for consultations, tests, and treatment.
Her mother, Veronique Blackway, said the community response has been heartwarming.
“The kindness we received has been incredible. When people heard about Ashtenique’s condition, they immediately wanted to help.
“Hosting this concert means so much to us; it shows how much love and care is out there.
“The concert will feature performances by local artists; all united to raise funds and uplift spirits.”
Blackway said in addition, a car wash fundraiser is planned for October 26, offering another way for the community to contribute to Ashtenique’s medical fund.
“The support received from everyone has been so meaningful. It has been an emotional time, but seeing how people have helped, gives us strength.”
Blackway said Ashtenique, known for her bright smile and joyful personality, remains hopeful as she faces these health challenges with the support of her community.
