Tambo Memorial Hospital Hosts Inaugural Service Excellence Awards

The event brought together employees from various departments to honour their exceptional contributions.

Tambo Memorial Hospital held its first Service Excellence Awards on November 29, bringing together employees from various departments to honour their contributions.

Speaking at the event, Acting CEO Dr Khulekani Shezi highlighted the significance of excellence in healthcare.

“Excellence is often associated with high standards, exceptional accomplishments and moments that set individuals apart from the ordinary.

“True excellence extends beyond awards and achievements; it lies in the dedication and commitment that staff members bring to work every day.

“Each of you plays a vital role in the success of our hospital.

“Every patient, colleague, client and community member you care for contributes to our shared mission of improving the health and well-being of our staff and those we serve,” he said.

Gemba walks
The awards featured several categories, including the prestigious CEO’s special recognition awards.
Shezi chose these awards based on his observations during ‘Gemba Walks’, a hands-on approach to management.

“The criteria included consistent professionalism, teamwork, punctuality, exceptional performance and overall impact on the hospital’s operations.”

Among the recipients were individuals and teams who demonstrated dedication to their roles, setting an example for their peers and elevating the standard of care provided at the hospital.

Tradition

Shezi said the inaugural Service Excellence Awards mark the beginning of a new tradition at the hospital.

“By recognising and celebrating the efforts of staff, we aim to create a positive and motivating work environment where excellence is not just encouraged but celebrated.”
