TMH hosts an empowering open day

The facility transformed community engagement in healthcare with its groundbreaking open day event.

Tambo Memorial Hospital (TMH) recently hosted a community-centred open day to bridge the gap between the hospital and its community while showcasing its wide array of clinical and non-clinical services.

CEO of TMH Zenzo Ndabula emphasised the significance of the day highlighting that its role was promoting transparency and trust between the hospital and the community it serves.

“By fostering transparency and dialogue, we empower individuals to make informed decisions about their healthcare,” said Ndabula.

Attendees had the opportunity to explore the stalls set up by various departments, each showcasing the health services they offer.

These included clinical services from radiology to psychology and emergency care to non-clinical services, including admissions and social work.

“The hospital left no stone unturned in providing comprehensive insight into its operations.

“One notable aspect of the open day was its focus on educating the youth about potential career paths in healthcare.”

Inspiring the next generation of healthcare professionals.
Senior learners at Voortrekker High School were thrilled to have the opportunity to learn about the health services rendered at TMH.

Grade 11 and 12 students from Boksburg and Voortrekker high schools also toured the hospital facilities and interacted with healthcare professionals, igniting their interest in pursuing careers in the medical field.

“The event also served as a platform to reinforce the principles of patient rights and healthcare entitlements.
“Information sessions conducted by various departments clarified Batho Pele (people first) principles and emphasised patients’ rights to quality healthcare services,” said Ndabula.

Social workers share crucial information during the event.

He underscored the significance of continuous engagement and awareness-building as World Health Day, marked with the theme ‘My Health, My Right’ on April 7 served as a poignant reminder.

“Our commitment to promoting healthcare rights extends beyond this event as we continue to engage with our community through various channels, including social media and outreach programs.

“Central to TMH’s mission is the provision of high-quality healthcare services to all individuals, irrespective of nationality. Upholding the principles outlined in the National Patient Rights Charter, the hospital ensures access to care while maintaining strict confidentiality and privacy standards.

“Additionally, the hospital has implemented robust feedback mechanisms to gauge community opinions and enhance patient satisfaction. Through internal complaints, compliments, and suggestions procedure, we strive to address concerns promptly, fostering a culture of responsiveness and care,” said Ndabula.
