Reiger Park NPO in dire need of items for food parcels

Community of Hope Multipurpose Centre, which supports 550 families, is in dire need of food parcels to provide essential nutrition, especially for those living with HIV/AIDS.

Community of Hope Multipurpose Centre is reaching out to the public for assistance with items for food parcels.

The centre, which is a beacon of hope for many in Reiger Park and surrounding areas, is facing a critical shortage of essential supplies.

Established in 1997, the centre has evolved from its origins as the Reiger Park Community Crisis Centre, expanding its services to address a wide range of community needs, including psycho-social support, poverty alleviation, and early childhood development.

The centre’s mission is built on fostering self-sustainability and promoting community development, with initiatives such as community food gardens and youth engagement programmes.

According to centre director Elaine Appies, they support about 550 families, many of whom are grappling with significant health challenges, including HIV/AIDS .

“For these families, access to nutritious food is not just a basic necessity but a critical component of their health management.

“A balanced diet is essential for individuals living with HIV/AIDS, as it helps maintain their immune system and supports the effectiveness of antiretroviral therapy.

“However, the current shortage of food parcels threatens to undermine these efforts.”

Appies emphasised the urgency of the situation, stating, “As we continue to serve our community, we are facing a significant challenge in providing the basic necessities.

“Food parcels are crucial for many families who rely on us for support, especially those managing chronic health conditions.”

Those wishing to contribute may contact the centre directly to arrange donations on 072 127 9090.
