Young math prodigy excels on Pi Day

Musa Mawelele amazed Christian Brothers College by flawlessly reciting 200 digits of pi.

Musa Mawelele (12), a Grade 6 learner from Sunward, has made history at Christian Brothers College by reciting an astounding 200 digits of pi during the school’s annual Pi Day celebration on March 14.

The event, aimed at making mathematics engaging, included various math-related activities. Musa’s remarkable achievement earned him first place in the competition and set a new senior primary record.

His display of memory and mathematical skill left both his peers and teachers amazed.

Musa’s journey to mastering the digits of pi is a story of dedication and discipline.

“I had a list of 1 000 digits, but this year, my goal was to reach 500. It took me a week and a few days to memorise 200, which is a big improvement from last year when I managed 100 digits.

I hope to one day break a Guinness World child record for reciting pi numbers.”

“I want to discover, to find and even cure viruses that were once incurable. I am very curious about the world.”
