Last-minute goals sink CBC in 3-2 loss to Alberton

CBC saw a 2-1 lead slip away, with Alberton scoring twice in the final 10 minutes to secure a dramatic 3-2 win.

Christian Brothers College Old Boys suffered a 3–2 defeat against Alberton in a tightly contested Easterns Senior Men’s Division One clash on April 25, as the hosts staged a dramatic late comeback to claim all three points.

According to Justin Smallcombe of CBC Old Boys, they began the match on the front foot, dominating early possession and threatening in the opening minutes.

“However, it was Alberton who found the opener against the run of play, capitalising on a defensive lapse to take a 1–0 lead into halftime.”

“The visitors responded with determination after the break. Midfielder Adriano Berreira brought CBC level shortly after the restart, finishing off a swift counter-attack. Claudio Da Silva then gave CBC the lead, calmly slotting home to make it 2–1 as the momentum swung in their favour.”

Smallcombe said with just ten minutes remaining, CBC looked set to secure a hard-earned away victory.
“Alberton had the final say, scoring two quick-fire goals late in the match to overturn the deficit and seal a 3–2 win in front of their home crowd.”

“The result leaves CBC with one win, one draw and one loss from their opening three matches of the season, as we look to regroup ahead of their next fixture.”
